AFCAT Recruitment 2020 (Flying officer, Technical, Non-Technical, and Ground Duty Branches): AFCAT (Air force common admission online test) recruiting commissioned officers in Flying and Ground Duty (technical and non-technical post). The candidates having a graduate degree can apply for flying duty, technical, non-technical and ground duty post. AFCAT exam conducted twice every year over the country by Indian Air force.

This year’s exam was held on 24, 25 February 2020, and the next will be on 24, 25 August 2020. The selection of the candidates is based on the written examination and interview conducted by AFCAT authority.

AFCAT Exam Calendar 2020-2021

AFCAT exam conducted twice every year over the country by Indian Air force.

  1. AFCAT notification: November 2019 and June 2020
  2. Registration begins: December 2019 and June 2020
  3. Admit card issued: February first week and last week of July
  4. Exam date: 24, 25 February 2020 and 24, 25 august 2020
  5. Result date: 17 March 2020 and September 2020

AFCAT 2020 Latest Updates

Due to COVID-19, AFSB Dehradun, Varanasi, Mysore, Gandhinagar have canceled their AFSB interview on March 19, 2020, for all the aspirants. The link to select the AFSB Interview date is blocked. It will be open after Lockdown ends.

Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus, the Indian Army on March 18, 2020, has canceled all its Selection Board Interviews. The Indian Navy and Indian Air Force will also cancel the Interviews due to COVID-19.

AFCAT result 2020 for the online exam has been announced by Indian Air Force on 17 March. To log in for Result, candidates need to enter their email ID, password, and captcha code.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic situation, will AFCAT exam 2020 postponed or not?

This question arises because many of the defence exams and interviews are postponed in 2020.

The notification of the AFCAT exam is released in June 2020 and conducted in August 2020.

If the lockdown extended till june, there are high chance it will be postponed. The officials announce new updates after the completion of lockdown.

On the other hand, Indian Air force had postponed AFSB AFCAT 1 2020 Interview procedure.  The link of admit card, exam centre, date of exam are blocked due to crisis of COVID-19 lockdown situation.

AFCAT Eligibility Criteria

Flying branch: The candidate must have completed a graduation course in a relevant field with at least 60% aggregate.

Technical branch: the candidate must have completed B.E/B.Tech in a relevant field with at least 60% aggregate

Ground duty: the candidates must have completed graduation degree.

AFCAT Age Criteria

Flying branch: 24 years as on January 01, 2021.

Technical branch: Minimum age should be 18 years and maximum age should be 28 years

Ground duty: The age limit between 20 – 23 years

Selection mode

The selection of the candidates is based on written examination followed by interview held by Indian Air force (AFCAT). Only those candidates who qualify the written exam, will be called for the Interview.

AFCAT Posts commissioned:

The candidates will be commissioned either as “Short Service Commission (SSC) “, or “Permanent Commission” based.

Flying branch: Engaged for the 14 year

Technical and ground duty: engaged for 10 years which can be extended for the next 03 years.

Those candidates who are selected for permanent commission continue their service until the age of as per norms.

AFCAT Exam pattern

The AFCAT conducted the exam which consist two papers:

  1. AFCAT exam for flying duty and ground duty (technical and non – technical)
  2. Engineering knowledge test (EKT) for ground duty (technical and non-technical)

How to Fill Application Form for AFCAT 2020?

Salary and other accommodation

  • The duration of training period is one year and at that period AFCAT paid the stipend (as per norms) to the trainees.

Pay band (all branches) –      Rs 56,100 per month

Level 10 in the pay matrix: 7th CPC -56,100-1,10,700

Military service pay band: Rs 15,500 per month

Flying branch: Rs 11,250 per month

Technical branch officers: Rs 2500 per month


Other allowances

Officers are also entitled to other allowances like transport allowance, children education allowance, dearness allowance, house rent allowance, medical allowance etc.
