Story Behind Holika Dahan Holi Celebration reason

Prahlada, son of demon Hiranyakashyapu was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. He disobeyed the order of his father not to offer prayers to the Lord Visnu. To teach lesson to his son, Hirnyakashyapu called his sister, Holika to kill Prahlada. Holika sat on fire with Praladha, but to the amazement of the king, the fire burnt Holika & Prahlada remained unaffected.

The other story for Holi Celebration reason often associated with Holi is the story of Krishna and Radha. Krishna’s skin turned blue as a baby when he drank poisonous milk from a demon, according to Hindu story. Krishna love with Radha, but was worried that Radha would not feel the same way because of his skin. Krishna apply color to Radha’s skin, and they became a grateful couple.

Bhang for Holi

Here is Bhang Recipe to help you enjoy the Festival of Holi 2020!!

Quantity Ingredients
2 cups Water
1 Bowl Marijuana
4 Cups Warm Milk
2 Tablespoon Blanched & Chopped Almonds
1/8 Teaspoon Garam Masala
1 /4 Teaspoon Powdered Ginger
1/ 2 to 1 Teaspoon Rosewater
1 cup Sugar


  • Bring the Boil water and pour into a teapot.
  • Remove any seeds or twigs from marijuana, add it to the pot and cover.
  • Let this brew for about 10 minutes.
  • Now strain the water and marijuana through into a piece of cloth, collect the water and save.
  • Take the leaves and flowers and squeeze to extract liquid that remains.
  • Add this to the water. Place the leaves and flowers in a mortar and add two teaspoon milk.
  • Slowly but firmly grind the milk and leaves together.
  • Gather up the marijuana and squeeze out as much milk as you can.
  • Repeat the process until you have used about a half cup of milk.
  • Collect all the milk and place in a bowl.
  • By this time the marijuana will have turned into a pulpy mass.
  • Add the chopped almonds and some more warm milk.
  • Grind this in the mortar until a fine paste is formed.
  • Squeeze this paste and collect the extract as before.
  • Repeat a few more times until all that is left are some fibres and nut meal.
  • Discard the residue.
  • Combine all the liquids, including the water the marijuana is brewed in.
  • Add to this the garam masala, dried ginger and rosewater.
  • Add the sugar and remaining milk.
